Fatima’s Hand

Elise

In my project I have looked at the woman’s role in the Greek Orthodox Church and how the male dominance characterises its religious image. I can draw lines to religion on a more general basis, but I have chosen to concentrate about my own experience from the two weeks I stayed on Lesvos.

The artistic work that is the result of the time on the island consists of five photographs in a series. Everyone has their own title which is related to the meaning of each image. I have chosen to call the project Fatima’s Hand to draw attention to the women’s invisible presence in the Greek Orthodox Church.

The reason I chose to work on this topic because I wanted to seek out something I certainly did not have knowledge of: I wanted to learn something new.
